Science Fiction Night

akira The day the earth stood still

Since I had nothing better to do yesterday (how awesome is that? :D ) I watched some movies!

I know everyone has seen Akira already, but whatever. Since I liked the manga (it’s on my to-buy-when-getting-paycheck-list), I figured I should see if the movie is good, too.
The story of the movie is different from the manga (obviously, since you can’t put 2000 pages into 2 hours), but not in a bad way. You know how sometimes books get totally messed up when made into a movie, that didn’t happen here.
The animation is pretty good, if you think about it being made in 1988 (when I was 3!), there are a lot of new anime with worse animation quality than Akira.
I still like the manga (started publishing when I was - 3, 1882) more though, it just has a much better developed storyline.

Then about The day the earth stood still…hmm, it’s ok-ish? At the time I watched it I was already pretty tired, so I guess I was easily satisfied. The story wasn’t really drawing me in and the effects weren’t wow-ing either.
In the end it wasn’t a bad movie nor a good one, just really, really deep in the ok category, I guess.

So, I’d say Akira is something for people who liked the manga or are into cyberpunk in general (like me  ). The day the earth stood still…well, if it’s on tv or you don’t have anything better to do, you could try it.

based on manga…

20th_century_boyspsdmushishi

I watched these two movies today. About time I watch stuff again, after all I have a challenge to win, right? 8D

The first movie of 20th Century Boys was pretty close to the original manga (wiki), hence really cool. A few nuances of the story got lost though, but still can’t wait to see the other two movies. Well, you should watch it, it’s definitely worth it…if you have more than 2 hours you should read the manga, too. Urasawa Naoki sure is one of the best story tellers ever.
For some reason I feel like I should mention that I wanted to give Sadakiyo (he’s only mentioned in the first movie, he’ll start showing up in the other two movies) a major hug every time he appeared in the manga. Seriously, boy needs a lot of love!

The second movie I watched was Mushishi. First of all, the subs were crap, seriously, a LOT of mistakes. It sucks cause I automatically start focusing on the awfulness and can’t concentrate on the movie properly anymore. Well, it’s not a must see anyway. I kinda felt that the whole calmness and feeling that made the manga and anime (wiki) work were lost. Also, nothing against Odagiri Joe, but he didn’t display Ginko too well, at least in my eyes that is. He seemed to hesitant and unsure, that’s just not Ginko to me. Not that Ginko always knows what he’s doing, but he’s not afraid to try and fail.

So in conclusion 20the Century Boys is always worth it, in manga or movie form, while for Mushishi you should stick with anime and manga.

Tomorrow I’m gonna go see Slumdog Millionair with my sis. I know, talk about late

bullets of random

I’m talking bullet points today because I don’t really feel coherent right now. Still hanging from a cliff…the none elephant+daisy type (alluding JFK, know your movies people!) but the holyland chapter 43 one.

 started reading Holyland today. Serious awesomeness alert! I’m reading a lot of seinen lately, way cooler than any shojo/josei stuff.

    Top 3 Manga Genres:
  • 01.) Shounen Ai / Yaoi (yeah, lol, I know, surprise!)
  • 02.) Shounen
  • 03.) Seinen…last two could be reversed though.
  • I’m starting work on april 1st. Oh, april fools, that’s gonna be…interesting? saw commercial of future employer again, makes my stomach twist

 I’ve seen at least 10000+ people post about Hikaru Utada and Boa US albums…let’s move on shall we?

 No offense to anyone, since this is a highly unfounded opinion of mine, but seriously, too much poupee around. Please someone drive the band waggon of a cliff (not the one I’m dangling on though…).

    crap, it’s almost 3am, I didn’t notice!

    Go to DMC

I just watched Detroit Metal City. So awesome, really. I wanted to watch it earlier already, but somehow never got down to it. I already loved the Anime, and the movie was super funny, too! I just love Krauser, can’t help it. The scene from the anime in which Krauser rapes Tokyo Tower wasn’t in (aaaw…) but that probably would have been hard to translate into a movie? No Capitalist Pig either, but well, some things can’t be put into movies…

I love the music, too, even though the lyrics are pretty, uhm…obscene? Need to get soundtrack!

Apart from that package came today :!: Got Nemureru Tsuki 1! Now I got everything Miyamoto Kano which yesasia got to offer…I hope they’ll have Calling eventually, too. I wish they would have Hydra, but that is a whole different deal itself. Reprints of her work, so very necessary!!!

    too awesome not to post

↑↑↑ She made him write BL fanfiction :D (I almost fell of my chair laughing) ↑↑↑

↓↓↓ His attempt at doing so ↓↓↓

Both from Fujoshi Kanojo, which is extremely funny. Especially if you, well, you know, understand the female lead
