Day 14 → A non-fictional book

VogueKurt Cobain - Journalsmoonage daydream

It says A non-fictional book, but I give you three. Whatever, who cares about numbers. A book about Vogue Magazine, the Journals of Kurt Cobain and Moonage Daydream, a mixture of photo book and biography/tour report of David Bowie.

What has been bothering me for a while now, reading peoples posts of day 14, is that some don’t get the concept of non-fiction. No people, non-fiction does not mean no science fiction or fantasy. So, here you go, a definition:

Non-Fiction - writing dealing with facts and events rather than imaginative narration

I wish I had more non-fictional books. I have a few about history and some astronomy books, too, and lots of so called coffee table books with pretty pictures.

I want more biographies, books about (musical or fashion) artists. Like I want to read a proper biography of Kurt Cobain and David Bowie, Marilyn Manson must be interesting, too, or Dave Grohl or probably Nick Drake or Johnny Cash or…well, you get the picture. Fashion wise Karl Lagerfeld would definitely be at the top of my list.

Day 12 → Whatever tickles your fancy
Day 13 → A fictional book

kuschelsocken The Catcher in the Rye & The Mysteries of Pittsburgh

I bought those socks today. I’m looking forward to wearing them, because my room is usually super cold in the winter and they are really comfy and warm (and they are ice cream colored!). I believe “Japanese fashion enthusiasts” call stuff made from that fabric モコモコ. Anyway, that’s it for day 12.

And those books I got the last few days. Well, actually yesterday (package from amazon) and today. It’s “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh” by Michael Chabon and “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger. I’m probably in an American novel phase.

And that’s day 13 and now I’m up to date! Ha!

day #9 - day #11

I didn’t manage to keep up after all…I had a pretty shitty day thursday, so I didn’t really feel like it. After that I didn’t have pictures ready so I just thought I’d resume on the weekend, so here I am.

Day 09 → A photo you tookDay 10 → A photo of you taken over ten years ago

Days 9 to 11!

Day 11 → A photo of you taken recently

Day 09 → A photo you took: Same old view outside my window…are you bored yet?

Day 10 → A photo of you taken over ten years ago: That photo is my favorite picture of all time! I’m on the right.

Day 11 → A photo of you taken recently: My hair went crazy yesterday and I couldn’t make a proper photo, so now you get me pulling a face on the train…

Day 12 and 13 to come after I’m back home.

Day 08 → A photo that makes you angry/sad

I can never forget the date, seeing how I started this on the first…

winter

What currently gets on my nerves is the weather. Well, it’s not snowing right now (that’s an older picture), but the weather report is saying that it is going to start snowing again this week.

I don’t want anymore snow and cold weather. I’d like some sunshine, because this grey is making me depressed! Oh well, no not really, but I’m sick of it I need it to be spring soon…and I wouldn’t mind not being cold all the time either.

Day 07 → A photo that makes you happy

I dreaded day 7 and 8, because for me there are no photos that make me happy or sad, they are just pictures. So I made this:

happy

It’s a collection of some of the pictures I posted over the last few month. Obviously no pictures of people, cause everyone I know is paranoid about the internet knowing anything about them let alone their face.

I have no idea what I should do tomorrow for the picture that makes me sad… maybe I’ll skip it, sorry in advance!

Day 06 → Whatever tickles your fancy

Trolli KissSince we got that new vending machine at work, this bag of sweets just kept staring at me, so I gave in last week.

Went out to get new glasses today, even though I didn’t feel like it at all. I already wrote the text to my sister, telling her I was not coming, but then scrapped it.

I don’t like it if people do that, make a date, an appointment or even just announce something (”I’m going to xy next week, I’m so exited!!!11″) and then cancel without a proper reason (”I was lazy lol”). I’d probably even go as far as to call it a fault in character.

So in my miniature universe I’m really trying to stick to what I say, because stuff like that is important to me. I’m a bit of a control freak, so I’m training myself in self-discipline like one of those guys in martial arts movies.

I’m most likely just writing this because I’m tired and spent the last 30 minutes snoozing through the end of Law abiding citizen

P.s.: The optician told me today, that if my left eye was ever harmed I’d be screwed, cause my right eye has such bad sight. That was a shocker… He actually told me to use synthetic material for my glasses lenses because that won’t splitter and can’t fuck up my left eye…think the guy might like to spook people. I got the synthetic lenses anyway.

Day 05 → Your favourite quote

everything will be okay in the end, if it's not okay, it's not the end.

I’m having a really nice evening…listening to great music (Florence + the Machine) reading random magazines. Days like these I wonder why people need parties :)

Day 04 → Your favourite book

High Fidelity - Nick Hornby

High Fidelity - Nick Hornby

Be with you - Takuji Ichikawa

Be with you - Takuji Ichikawa

I don’t really have one favorite book. Not yet anyway. I only recently started to read again thanks to the train rides home and there are still so many books I want to read, but those are two books I like a lot.

High Fidelity is a way better book than a movie. There is a lot more insight on what’s going on in Robs head, since it’s written from his point of view. I really liked it a lot, actually after this one I started buying books again.

Be with you / いま、会いにゆきます is just beautiful. I know it was made into a drama series and a movie, but I haven’t seen either. The book is also written a little different, I think simple fits it very well. The story is really moving, it can stand on it’s own, so there is no need for fancy speech.

Day 03 → Your favourite television programme

Life on Mars

Life on Mars

I think, by now we have established that I have a thing for the 70ies… believe me, it surprises me, too.

Life on Mars is probably the only show I’ve seen more than twice. Even if I love a tv show I usually don’t watch it more than once.

Even though you could argue that the story is kind of ridiculous, it totally works. Mostly because the writing is great and the actors are believable (love John Simm and Philip Glenister!).

Don’t get me started on the US version, that one is just worse than horrible. I never got past the first twenty minutes. Basically the US version is a complete copy with less interesting actors and no accent. When I say copy I mean copy, it was a big quote, the same line by line. Also, no offence, but there is no way some big meaty cop is listening to David Bowie in his car. It’s just not the same without the UK actors. Life on Mars is pretty much based on personality and the US remake just fails at carrying that.

…I said don’t get me started. Anyway, you should all go watch it, it’s great!

Day 02 → Your favourite movie

Velvet Goldmine

Velvet Goldmine

IMDB says: 1971: Glamrock explodes all over the world and challanges the seriousness within the flowerpower generation by means of glitter and brutal music. Brian Slade, a young rockstar, inspires numerous teenage boys and girls to paint their nails and explore their own sexuality. Unable to escape the role he created for himself, he plots his own murder. When his fans discover that the murder is a fake, his star falls and he is forgotten about. 1984: Arthur, a journalist working for a New York newspaper, gets assigned the story about the fake murder of Brian Slade. When Arthur was young and grew up in Manchester, he was more than a fan of Slade. Reluctantly he accepts the assignment and starts to investigate what happened his old glamrock hero.

The first time I saw Velvet Goldmine I was probably 15. I tried catching it on TV whenever it was on, sadly that was usually pretty late so I didn’t watch it nearly as much as I wanted to. Well, I have the DVD now anyway…

It’s colorful, fun and has great music. I love Ewan McGregor as Curt Wild, best freak-out on stage since Iggy Pop (obviously since Ewan McGregors stage performance was modeled after Iggy Pop…).

That movie is probably also why I got into David Bowie, even though he distanced himself from it. Well, don’t care, still love the movie.
