Now playing…

ok, four albums I like to listen to at the moment. This is probably no music you’ll hear in the top 10 because I really have no idea what people are listening to at the moment. Also no music that’s older than me, so you probably don’t need to worry about me going music nerd on you either. Lucky you, huh?

Alex Band - We've all been thereAlexz Johnson - VoodooThe Like - Release MeWakey Wakey - Almost Everything I wish I had said the last time I saw you

1. Alex Band - We’ve all been there
I really like his music, it’s …good? Not in an evaluation of quality kind of way, then it would be great, but I mean in the lyrics and melody and music kind of way? Yeah, sometimes I don’t get myself either. Through listening to his music i just get he feeling he’s a good guy, obviously I can’t say if it’s true because I don’t know him, but his music gives him that kind of image. (That’s meant as a compliment btw, I know guys don’t want to be the nice guy.)
I love his solo work and I loved the calling and anyway, I kinda worship the ground he’s recording on.

2. Alexz Johnson - Voodoo
Let’s just forget that she was in that instant star thing because this album doesn’t sound like it. It has a few songs that sound rather film noir updated, I really like that. The one thing that sounds off though is the song “LA Made Me”, who the hell thought this song would fit in with the rest? I mean it’s not a bad song, it just destroys the flow of the album for me. Still like it though.

3. The Like - Release Me
As you can probably guess from the cover, those girls like the 60s and so do I. I tend to draw comparisons to The Pierces because they have similar topics and lyrics in their songs. The music is totally different though.
The whole 60s revisited thing makes the album really fun to listen to. It’s also kind of girly, so if you are having a moment with your nail polish this CD would probably be a nice soundtrack.

4. Wakey!Wakey! - Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said The Last Time I Saw You
Yeah, bigass title that is. Wakey! Wakey! is taking the crown from the arctic monkeys for that. First heard them on One Tree Hill (the show can’t end there is NO show that can fill the musical void it will leave behind). I actually had trouble to find a song for this post because I really like all of them. “Almost Everything”, “Dance so good”, “1876 - The Brooklyn Theatre Fire” I think they are all great. In the end I choose “Light Outside” because it was the first one I heard.

This is fun, I should do it more often.

bla…

teddy want a huge teddybear right now (from here)

I’m feeling a little unhappy today…feeling blue probably fits it better.

Anyway, been sick the last few days. Today was my first day back at work and it was…well, put plainly: annoying.

My colleague, who is my senior and in charge of what I do, pushed some of his uncomfortable emails on me, which he does a lot sometimes. “Can you tell her we can’t do that?”, “Can you tell them it isn’t supposed to be that way?”. Of course I can, but so can you…

And my boss scheduled a workshop thing next week without telling me. Great, now I’ll dread next week because I don’t want to go.

I love my job, I really, really do, just not today.

day #23 & day #24

Day 23 → A YouTube video

This is one of my favourite, if not my favourite Bowie video. I love how he smiles, like he’s about to crack up, and the horrible hair and outfit and the red boots! … I love the song and how he looks like so much fun.

Day 24 → Whatever tickles your fancy

I tend to adapt to the language of what I read at that moment. You just have to read a normal post when I don’t read anything and one that I wrote when having read for example a Hornby book before. It’s not that I start having great literary talent all of a sudden, I just write different from my usual style and more like the authors. I’m reading Catcher in the Rye at the moment, so I adapted a little to the way Salinger makes Holden think/talk (not in this post though)…it’s probably hard to see if you don’t really know my writing style…anyway~ whatever!

day #16

Day 16 → A song that makes you cry (or nearly)

Obviously what makes you cry when hearing a song is not the song itself but the associations you have with it, except for when it is a Mariah Carey song, that just hurts. (yeah, you didn’t think I’d not do that, right?)

You could probably throw the Ballad Best album of Exile into the cd player or let Alex Band sing ballades and I’d cry like a little kid over a dead penguin.

I chose a different song though. Aoi Tori by the Gospellers. The lyrics are so sentimental, it’s really beautiful.

day #01

ok, so I really don’t have much to talk about, so I’ll stick with that meme, might at least keep me posting for a month…maybe…

Day 01 → Your favourite song

Wonderwall is the only song I never, never get sick of hearing. As soon as I hear the first few seconds of the song I immediately think “god, I love this song!”. I love to hum and sing it, too. It makes me happy the second it goes on, really.

(Next in line are R.E.M. - Losing my Religion and David Bowie - Life on Mars)

Last.fm Best of 2009

Yeah, as if I would write a proper review. Me, never! I don’t like to pretend I have one of those topic-based blogs, cause really, I don’t!

Anyway, last.fm went around collecting scrobbles for 2009 and made a best of list. Top 5 are as follows:

I love Franz Ferdinand, but I've been kinda neglecting their newest work. I listened to one of their older songs a while ago and now I want to listen to their stuff again, but that's kinda difficult with a broken stereo...

The big comeback this year...the music isn't my cup of tea, never has been. Actually Keith Flint scared me when I was younger. 11 year old girls don't really get punk I guess

I like Lily Allen a lot. It's also pretty amazing how her second album was a complete 360°. You'd think it would be worse, but it's really different but still really good.

How come a lot of bands get big when I'm over them already? I liked Mr. Brightside and Hot Fuss, but I didn't really keep track of them after that...

Surprise, surprise! Shocking revelation there. I like her music, the only problem I have is, that most of the time it's about everything else BUT the music...oh, and I can't stand it when she mentions her own name in songs.

All in all I’m not overly excited about those results, but really there have been worse.

RS Top 500 Albums - #283, #245, #320, #26

nick-drakeNick Drake #283 - Five Leaves Left, #245 - Bryter Layter, #320 - Pink Moon
I actually listen to Nick Drake because I was reading a book it was mentioned in (a long way down – Nick Hornby), then I realized I actually had heard his music before.

I kind of find that Nick Drake sounds like he invented melancholy, and I like how his songs sound both simple and complicated at the same time.

I also think it’s really not music for everyone, and you certainly can’t listen to it all the time, there is a reason why he wasn’t popular during his lifetime after all.

I can’t really decide on a favourite album, I like them all and I can really see why all Nick Drake albums are in the RS Top 500.

u2-thejoshuatree#26 U2 - The Joshua Tree
I think U2 is highly overrated. I’m not saying they are bad, they have some great songs, but I still don’t think they are as awesome as some people want to make you believe. However, you have to have done something right when most people know at least three of your songs at the top of their head. That’s not a fact, just my humble guess, but go on, try, you know at least three. And I bet those three songs are from Joshua Tree.

Joshua Tree is a really good album and I like it a lot, I just think it’s solid rock music. It’s nice to listen to, but it doesn’t turn your world upside down.

(Three U2 songs you most likely know: Where the streets have no name, I still haven’t found what I’m looking for, With or without you. The first three songs on Joshua Tree.)

a new CD…again

Nick Drake - Pink MoonLately I find that the best music is found in the sale section or five bucks box or wherever you can find the CDs, that are sold for less because they aren’t selling well. I also find that I can’t exit a store where they are selling CDs without buying one.

I just wanted to buy the Star Trek DVD for my sister and came out with Nick Drake’s Pink Moon. It was only 6,99€ so I guess that’s ok.
That’s the good thing about liking old music is it’s way cheaper than the new releases. The last three CDs I bought cost as much as one new album, that’s a bargain I guess.

I don’t have a lot of CDs (about 100?) but seeing how I’m constantly buying some that’s going to change pretty soon. I never bought any CDs because I never had the money, but I have now, so I’m going to pile them up till there is no space in my room left for me to put them :D

short, short, short

091024-01

Went out to buy a sleeve for my laptop or netbook for that matter. Came back with a sleeve…and some other stuff.

I’m going to watch G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra now. The single reason why I’m going to do that is because Christopher Eccleston is in it… and probably for the lolz.

RS Top 500 Albums - #197, #140, #470

R.E.M. - Murmur#197 - R.E.M. - Murmur
I actually pulled another R.E.M. album (And I feel fine) out of the five bucks box at a show a while ago. I bought it because I liked two of their songs, both which are not on Murmur, but still.

First I thought they were neither good nor bad, but I find myself liking them more and more.

Murmur is R.E.M.s debut album and I find they have been keeping true to their style up till now. You hear an R.E.M. song and you know from the first few seconds it’s them. It’s great if a band can have such a distinctive sound.

I liked the album a lot. Favorite song would be Perfect Circle.

Blondie - Parallel Lines#140 - Blondie - Parallel Lines
I bought this one a while ago, too. I really didn’t know what to expect from it because I think Blondie now is a a group that about everyone knows one or two songs of, they just don’t know it’s a Blondie song.

This album is so much fun! I really love it. It’s kind off girl rock, however that doesn’t mean it’s girly pink stuff. Debbie Harry sings with this awesome strong voice, it’s just great! What I mean with it probably being more of a girls album is that the lyrics probably appeal more to them.
I for one have been bouncing through the room singing Hanging on the Telephone.

R.E.M. - Document#470 - R.E.M. - Document
And yet another R.E.M album! I think there are three on the list.

I didn’t like this album that much compared to Murmur. I mean it’s far from bad, it’s pretty good, but Murmur is definitely better.

Document is the album that brought us the awesomeness that is It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) though. I really love this song, it feels a little sarcastic, it’s great.

Also a highlight on the album is The one I love, which schould be more well known, too.
