As you can see I got my hair cut. The weather sucks today, so the lighting was bad and I gave up on taking proper pictures. I look kinda sad in the picture
the cut got a bit of a boyish look, I like it
Tomorrow my sis and I are going to go to the night of museums. You buy one ticket and you can visit most of the museums in town. Also, as the name implies, it’s at night, so it’s starting at 6pm till I-don’t-know-when in the morning. Sis and I decided on a three museums, two galleries and a church tour. I’m really looking forward to it!
#76 - John Lennon – Imagine
Again with the Beatles, hm? Still can’t really connect with the style. Maybe 60’s music just doesn’t do it for me, I don’t know. Well, it’s good music, just doesn’t really have me awestruck.I have to admit that I kinda skipped through the album, it certainly is obvious that John Lennon had something to say.
Most well known song from the album is Imagine, favourite of mine is probably How do you sleep?.
Yesterdays episode of True Blood…Eric in a skirt, the queens comment on how Bill and Eric should overcome their troubles and that pep talk in the car between Jason and that police guy whose name I don’t remember. Good one!
Went out with my sis today to buy her a new cell phone. After that we went to McDonalds/McCafe, had a very chocolaty chocolate cake.
I don’t really know what to write about, so…I don’t?
I love David Bowie and Hunky Dory is my favourite album of his, so what more is there to say??? I love his craziness and his 500000+ stage personalities, he’s really interesting.
Apparently when they where shooting the cover, David Bowie brought a picture of Marlene Dietrich and said that’s what he wanted it to look like. The whole booklet is kinda hilarious, those pictures…but it’s about the music anyway, right?
My favourite song is Life on Mars, which is also my all time favourite Bowie song, makes the album automatically twice as cool. Changes is also a really great song.
Personally I’d say everybody needs to have a try and listen to this CD, it’s more than worth it!
I know I should write more real posts, but I’m not really up for it right now. So here it is, the beatles compilation post~
I really respect what the Beatles did, but their music just doesn’t seem to get through to me. It’s not like the music is bad, it really isn’t, but some music speaks to some people but never reaches others. Guess I’m not one of the chosen ones.
The albums I liked the best out of the ones I heard are Rubber Soul , Help! and Meet the Beatles. Every album is worth listening to, but I guess I had too high expectations, which is easy, seeing how everyone praises them to be the most awesome ever.
I think some music needs the right circumstances to be appreciated after all.I’m really glad that I listened to all those albums and their music though. While I wasn’t as awestruck at I hoped I would be, I still feel a lot smarter now. There is after all a difference between knowing who the Beatles are and making an effort to actually get to know them, right?
There are still two more albums by Roxy Music on the list, maybe I’ll change my mind, but right now I feel a little underwhelmed.
It’s background music, really. Like the music in older movies from the 70’s and 80’s.
It’s not necessarily bad music, but it fails to make an impact. There are no real peaks in any of the song. It’s very calm and the songs are really similar. I think it might definitely be possible to not notice that you skipped to the next song if there wasn’t a break between them.
I have a feeling that it works for people with a broken heart though. It probably goes well with tissues, chocolate and the thought of you never falling in love again.
I said before, Roxy Music is background music. With this album it’s not the case, making it definitely better than Avalon, way better actually.
This album has more attitude, more changes in voices, it’s overall more lively, which is really important to me. I’d rather listen to someone scream into the mic or sing with a bad, but emotional voice than songs that always have the same pitch.
Though I have to say the title song “For your pleasure” is again an example of background music…and it’s 6 minutes, which is way too long for this kind of song!
Came back from Munich about an hour ago. First thing I did was take a shower. The heat is killing me and definitely not softly.
To confirm a cliché about women, I actually had three tops with me for a three hour thing. One for the train ride in the morning (23°C, comfy and for not too hot or too cold weather), one for the interview (25°C, well, work cloth) and one for the train ride home (30°C, comfy and sleeveless).
The forecast for the end of this week said 35°C. I personally made arrangements to move into colder regions during the heat wave…Put the food aside, the fridge is mine!
#4 Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
My first thought? Finally! Real music! Which is kinda mean, but I really almost gave up on the Top 10.Music great, Lyrics great and Bob Dylan’s voice can probably make any song interesting. The only thing that gives me a bit of trouble is the song length. No matter how good a song is, if it’s longer than 6 minutes it gets difficult to pay attention, but apart from that no criticism from my side.
The first song Like a Rolling Stone is allegedly the best song ever made, so have a go and tell me what you think!
I was looking through my parents/dads record collection earlier. I found some Beatles and a Sweet single (I kinda love Sweet), then I made a run for it cause I could hear my dad coming up the stairs and I wouldn’t hear the end of it if he found me listening to “his” music.
I guess parents think by default that their children need to hate music that is older than 10 years. And if you say this or that sounds good they start some patronizing speech. No thanks, I’d rather jet than have to listen to this for ages.
#2 The Beach Boys – Pet Sounds
Pet Sounds, one of the most influential albums ever, the one that inspired Sgt. Pepper. My question is, if it inspired Sgt. Pepper why isn’t it #1? Case of student defeating the master?Whatever, really, but I think Pet Sounds is way better. The album is old, but it still has some kind of modern feel to it, it’s timeless I guess. Though these days you’d probably not put trains and animal noises on an album.
Favourite Song is Wouldn’t it be nice, liked it a lot when I was a kid. Nothing to skip, everything is nice to listen to.
There are four Beatles albums in the top 10 of list. I’m probably going to compile them in one, kinda like getting it over with. It’s not that I don’t like them or they are bad, but it’s just not my cup of tea…
I know that you usually start at the bottom, you know, bottoms up. But really, it’s not like I need to build up suspense. So I can listen to the best first, or at least the best according to the Rolling Stone. Well then, let me cannibalize other peoples favorite bands & albums!
#1 - The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
I think it’s good but it’s not the best album ever made. At least not for me. It’s really catchy though. You listen to it twice and you can remember a lot of things about each song.
The most well known song form the album, of course, With a little help form my Friends. The one I liked the most was Getting Better, the one I least liked Within You Without You.
There really isn’t much to say about this, is there? It’s The Beatles.
Also, new layout, featuring me, a cassette tape and popcorn! The layout can die happy now, seeing how it got all that great stuff!
Ladies and gentlemen, I have a plan!
I recently looked at the Rolling Stone 500 greatest albums of all time-list and found that I only listened to 22 of them! I probably have listened to most of the songs but never consciously listened to them as a whole album.
So that’s what I’m going to do!
…Starting tomorrow that is
…or today, seeing how it’s exactly 00:01.
Oh, I might leave out Bjork. Bjork is right up there with Shania Twain, Avril WhoselastnameIcantspell and Miss Carey.
I’m currently exploring the b-side of 70’s music (and earlier), meaning the hippie music stuff. Still more into the rock and punk stuff, though.
I’ve been looking for the old red walkman we have. Sadly it was broken and everything sounded like sung by a bunch of drunk smurfs. My stereo is crap; doesn’t play cd’s and eats tapes. However I was lucky enough to find another walkman! My walkman actually, it has a missing button
So right now I’m playing an old tape recorded by my dad. It is very clear that he wasn’t really the rock kinda type. Well, I knew that already anyway. If I had to label my parents when they were younger, they were definitely jocks.

Cassettes are fun though
in the picture up there are some tapes my sis and I own. It’s not music, just radio plays and audio book stuff. We were too young to really listen to music.
